Rangers Fire Coach Alain Vigneault

In a move that was not totally unexpected, the Rangers have reportedly fired head coach Alain Vigneault. TSN’s Bob McKenzie was the first to report the move.

When it became apparent that the Rangers were not a playoff team, they decided to go in a different direction and Vigneault’s status as head coach came under question. This was the first season that the Rangers missed the playoffs during Vigneault’s time behind the bench.

The high point of Vigneault’s five-year tenure as Rangers head coach was the run to the 2014 Stanley Cup Final.

The 56-year old head coach finishes his Rangers’ career with a 226-146-37 record in the regular season. 31-30 in the playoffs.
