Red Bulls Earn Third Straight Road Win (Notes)

The New York Red Bulls earned their third consecutive road victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating Minnesota United FC, 3-0 at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. New York is the second MLS squad to beat both 2017 expansion teams as NYCFC accomplished the feat earlier this year. New York defeated Atlanta United FC, 2-1 on opening day.

New York improved to 10-8-2 overall with the win. It is the eighth consecutive season the Red Bulls have recorded double-digit wins in a season and third straight with head coach Jesse Marsch.

The Red Bulls have scored three or more goals in three consecutive games. The last time they scored three plus goals in three straight games was from March 25th to April 7th, 2012.

The Red Bulls tallied their first three-game road winning streak since April 13-May 4, 2013. They have now scored eight goals in their last three away games after scoring four in their first seven away games this year (1W-6L).

New York’s four road wins are tied for the second most in MLS this season, behind the LA Galaxy’s five.

Daniel Royer opened the scoring with a laser from outside the box to put New York up 1-0 in the 16th minute.

As the second half began, Royer led Bradley Wright-Phillips into the 18-yard box with a looping pass over the defenders. Wright-Phillips finished to the far post to double the lead, 2-0 in the 67th minute.

As the match reached the 90th minute, Alex Muyl put the match away with a rocket underneath the crossbar to give New York a 3-0 victory.

Kljestan became the franchise’s all-time leader in assists as a Red Bull with 43. Kljestan surpassed Thierry Henry in the 90th minute as he earned the primary assist for Muyl’s goal.

Royer tallied three points on one goal and one assist. The Austrian winger has recorded a goal in three-straight contests.

Wright-Phillips tallied his 79th career MLS regular-season goal and improves his all-competition total to 88 career goals. BWP’s 79 career MLS regular-season goals moved him into a tie for 18th in MLS history with Yugoslavian midfielder/forward Preki.

Muyl, who recorded two game-winning goals earlier this season, raised his season total to three in the 90th minute.

With a game-high four saves, Luis Robles recorded his 45th career shutout and second on the road this season.

Felipe tallied his third game-winning assist of the season and ninth of his career.

Sean Davis, who recorded his first goal of the season on Wednesday, tallied his first assist of the season.

In extra time, Cameroonian defender Hassan Ndam made his professional debut as he came in for Sal Zizzo.

Michael Amir Murillo, who has missed the last two matches to play for Panama in the Gold Cup, returned to the 18-man squad and entered the match in the 61st minute for Damien Perrinelle.

Head coach Jesse Marsch improved his franchise-record to 44 wins. Marsch owns a 44-27-17 record at the helm of New York

New York is 44-38-22 all-time in the month of July. The Red Bulls have scored 169 goals and have allowed 160 goals in the seventh month of the year.

The Red Bulls have recorded four wins in July across all competition, the most victories in a month this season.
