Joe Torre-Owned Horse at Yonkers Raceway Tuesday Night (April 25) in $100,000 YR/SOA of NY Trot

Yonkers, NY—Four-time World Series champion Yankees manager Joe Torre is part-owner of Hillosophical, a four-year-old mare racing in the 10th race at Yonkers Raceway in New York on Tuesday night (April 25) for a total purse of $100,000. Currently MLB’s chief baseball officer (since 2011), the Hall of Fame skipper is a member of the Standardbred Owners Association of New York. Tyler Buter will drive the daughter of Muscle Hill for co-owner/trainer Buzzy Sholty (Sholty Racing, LLC), Torre’s Diamond Pride LLC, and co-owners Irwin Goldfarb and Joseph Lee.

Mr. Goldfarb has co-owned several Standardbred race horses with Torre previously, including Zim and Torre and Sis City. Torre’s late friend and bench coach Don Zimmer was co-owner of those two horses.

Hillosophical has four wins in 26 career starts, including a victory over the Yonkers half-mile oval on April 11th.

Hillosphical’s biggest win to date was in a consolation of the Zweig Memorial Trot at Vernon Downs in Vernon, NY, last July 24th.

Torre has also owned several Thoroughbred race horses, including Homeboykris with Zimmer, who won the 2009 Champagne Stakes at Belmont Park, Wild Desert, winner of the $1 million Queen’s Plate (first leg of Canadian Triple Crown) in 2006 with former NHL player Keith Jones, and Game On Dude, who was the 8-5 favorite in the Breeder’s Cup Classic in 2013 (finished 9th).

A nine-time All-Star as a player with the Braves, Cardinals and Mets, the Brooklyn-born Torre is the only major leaguer to achieve both 2,000 hits as a player (2,342) and 2,000 wins as a manager (2,326). He is hoping for another win on Tuesday night at Yonkers.
