So what if the Jets lost a heart-breaker yesterday. So what if Monday’s are usually for Monday morning quarterbacking.
So what?
There’s no time for it now. The Jets have a game to play on Thursday in Buffalo.
“I understand, because I have a short week and I have a lot to do and I’m not trying to hurt anybody’s feelings,” said head coach Todd Bowles. “I’m not trying to be personal about it, that’s what the team and I talked about and that’s what I’m doing. I’m not trying to make anyone not write a story, I just thought we moved on. I have two days of practice before Buffalo and we have to move.”
The coach is right. There’s just no time. The Jets have a sort week and do not want to fall to 0-2. It would torpedo their chances of making the playoffs.
This is what you have to consider a must-win game for Gang Green and Bowles knows it.
“There (is a) sense of urgency,” Bowles said. “We don’t want to go 0-2 for sure and no matter who we play this week (a division rival or not), there’s going to be a sense of urgency and hopefully it’s like that every week. That’s what we try to do.”
The Jets have to tighten up their deficiencies against Buffalo. They need Darrelle Revis to create an island again. They need Ryan Fitzpatrick to not force the issue. They obviously need Nick Folk to make all his kicks.
Heck they need an A+ effort out of everyone, including Bowles and his staff.
Rex Ryan will be gunning for them. He will get a great and perverse pleasure out of dropping his old squad to 0-2, while the Jets are starring down a barrel of a gun with a brutal schedule coming up.
And Bowles knows it’s going to be a tough task.
“He’s a good coordinator,” Bowles said. “He does a lot of things. He has a good pedigree. His brother is a great coordinator, so he’s a smart guy and they study just like we do. We just have to figure out ways to make it easier for Ryan (Fitzpatrick) and make it easier for the offense.”
The Jets didn’t beat the Bills last season and the loss on the last day of the year in Buffalo sealed the Jets fate.
So maybe they have a little redemption coming or at least wanting to bury a rival.
“It’s not redemption, it’s a division rival,” Bowles said. “Anybody knows to win the division, you have to go through Buffalo, Miami and New England. Buffalo is just up first for us, so we have to go and play and they beat us twice last year. They showed up and made more plays. This is a new year for us, a new year for them, so hopefully we learn from the mistakes we made yesterday and go in and play.”
If the Jets are going to do it, it has to be done quickly.
