Isner: Kaepernick Is “Pathetic”

John Isner is more than just a tennis player. He’s a fan.

And not just of the nets and volleys, but of all sports. He’s a big football fan, especially his hometown Carolina Panthers.

So with Colin Kaepernick in the news for not standing for the National Anthem to protest the police shootings of African Americans, the 20th seed chimed was asked his thoughts.

“I thought that was pathetic from him,” Isner said after his first round five set win over Frances Tiafoe, 3-6 4-6 7-6 6-2 7-6. “The cause he was going for, fine by me, but don’t do it in that fashion. He could have found some other ways to present his voice there. A lot of NBA players have done it, and good on ’em.

“For him doing it in that way really irked me. I’m a big Blaine Gabbert fan now.”
