Day 2 of The Barclays is complete and Patrick Reed still leads the field with minus-8 68 on his second day.
Reed was hot today. He got off to great start. Par 3 on the first 3 holes. He likes starting in back nine.
“Anytime you’re on top of the leaderboard you feel good,” Reed said. “I left some shots out there today, especially late in the round. It was just something I’m going to have to go back and fix a little bit. Just kind stick to my game plan.”
The key Reed said is “just keep doing what I’m doing. Just hit fairways and make a couple of putts.”
He was in a group with Phil Mickelson (who finished plus-2 70) and Kevin Na. The crowd was loud and getting rowdy at times as day was going on.
Hole 17 was arguably his best shot of the day. “It was a perfect number I had a 210 yards I hit a hard 5 into the right, started up the middle I saw it turning and when it came off the club face,” Mickelson said. “I knew it was good but I realize it was that good.”
Emiliano Grillo finished secondnd a minus-6 69. “I was playing really hard today with the wind,” he said. “Very long hole to start with. I knew I had 17 hole ahead of me, and so just put it behind me. My mentality this weekend is just to hit the fairway out there. That’s going to be it. Afterward, its going to be just try to hit it close and make putts. I turned things around the tenth hole. It was a rough start, but I knew it was the first hole. and I had a lot of chances. That’s what I did. I put it behind and I managed to make three birdies. There in front nine.”
It continues on Saturday.
Rick Fowler also tied for third minus-6 69, said after he complete his round today, “Made a couple of good putts on the top for par which is something I’ve struggled with the last few months. Nice to see some progress there. If I can make some putts over the weekend, continue to swing well but off to good start after two days.”
Jason Day was tied for firstst when when he shot a 6 on ninth hole, he finished tied for fifth minus-4 70.
