Patrick Reed leads just two weeks removed from representing the US in the Olympics. Reed shot a bogey-free 66 in the opening round today. recording three birdies and an eagle on the front nine against all pars on the back nine.
This is the third time Reed has held a lead or co-lead after 18 holes. Twice going onto victory and never finishing worse than runner-up.
This is Reed’s 25th start of the season and has recorded nine top 10 so including two runner-up finishes at the Valero Texas Open He best finish in three previous starts at Barclay’s was Ninth .in 2014.
Martin Laird made five birdies and no bogeys en route to a first round 66, tying with Patrick Reed. Laid, hit 15 0f 18 greens in regulation and had just 26 putts on those 15 greens.
This is Lairds 23 start of the season, his best finish was 12th at the RBC Canadian Open to along with four other top 25 finishes in his six previous starts at the Barclays. His best finish is a runner-up in 2010. He finished tied 71 in 2012, last time the tournament was played at Bethpage Black.
