New York City welcomed the 2016 AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour to the Big Apple with men’s and women’s open Qualifying action being played throughout the day by teams fighting for coveted spots in the Main draw. Play in the 16-team, double-elimination Main-draw tournament begins tomorrow at 10:30am, and runs through Sunday’s finals, which will be played on Manhattan’s west side along Hudson River Park’s Piers 25 & 26.
Scheduled players for the Main draw on Friday include two of the four teams representing the red, white and blue in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics – three-time Olympic gold medalist Kerri Walsh Jennings, Olympic silver medalist April Ross, Olympic gold medalist Phil Dalhausser, and future Olympian Nick Lucena as well as the number one seeded brothers Taylor and Trevor Crabb.
Today’s Qualifying action saw 34 men’s teams and 27 women’s teams battling along the Hudson for much sought-after spots into the Main draw. The women’s teams that advance to tomorrow’s Main Draw are:
