HOPE Week 2016 concluded on Friday in emotional fashion as Alex Rodriguez, Aroldis Chapman, Nathan Eovaldi, Didi Gregorius, Aaron Hicks, and singer Rotimi surprised Said Rivera of the Bronx for a Yankees-themed makeover of his bedroom, which will be completed and revealed this Sunday night.
With guidance from today’s HOPE Week honoree – the organization Blissful Bedrooms – the players helped to begin Said’s bedroom makeover by donating a Yankees team signed base and painting parts of his bedroom walls in Yankees colors.
Yankee Stadium carpenters also assisted by building a Yankees-themed bat rack. The entire group – including Said, his family, Yankees players and Blissful Bedrooms volunteers – then had lunch together in a community room in Said’s apartment building.
About Blissful Bedrooms:
Friday’s honorees were Martha Gold-Dvoryadkin and Alexey Dvoryadkin, the founders of “Blissful Bedrooms” – an organization that transforms the personal spaces of young individuals who have very limited resources and severe physical disabilities that make them wheelchair dependent and highly reliant on others for activities of daily living.
Their goal for each bedroom is to create a personal sanctuary conceived exclusively for the individual – a safe haven where the young person will feel inspired, protected, stimulated, valued, appreciated and loved.
