Yankees Hope Week Day 3

The Yankees celebrated the Southern Boulevard School of Chatham Township, New Jersey, which, inspired by the Yankees’ efforts over the past six years, held their own HOPE Week in November 2014. Under the leadership of Principal Robert Gardella, the elementary school students carried forth the example set by the Yankees by serving the community with the creation of weekend snack kits for low-income children, the assembly of care packages for infants from disadvantaged families and the donation of toys and art supplies for children in local shelters during the holiday season. Through these missions, the kids learned about the internal rewards that come from making a difference in the lives of others.

Prior to the game, Carlos Beltran, Didi Gregorius and Luis Severino helped students and faculty from the Southern Boulevard School in a back-to-school school supplies drive at Yankee Stadium. The items collected will be delivered to a nearby Bronx elementary school, where they will be distributed to students for the start of the new school year. Following the game, the players joined students at an ice cream social in the Yankee Stadium press conference room.
