Lupo Homers in 6-2 Loss Thursday

Savannah, GA – The First Half Champion Savannah Sand Gnats began the second half by falling 6-2 to the Lexington Legends Thursday night at Savannah’s Historic Grayson Stadium.

The Legends (1-0/31-39) scored two runs in both the second and third innings off starter Casey Delgado to build a 4-0 lead. In the second, left fielder Samir Duenez tripled to right to chase home two runs. Then second baseman Corey Toups led off the third with a homer.

Vicente Lupo provided all of the offense for the Gnats (0-1/39-32). His two-run homerun in the bottom of the fifth pulled the Gnats within three at 5-2. Lupo was 2-for-3 with a double and a homer, his third of 2015.

However, the Legends added another run in the top of the seventh to complete the game’s scoring at 6-2.

Delgado allowed five runs, four earned, on seven hits on a night when the Gnats committed three errors.

Lexington right fielder Elier Hernandez finished 3-for-4 with a sacrifice fly and two RBI for Lexington.

Legends starter Scott Blewett earned the win for holding Savannah to two runs on three strikeouts in his six innings.
