Marathon Organizers Issue Challenge To N.Y., N.J. Runners

As if competing in one distance race isn’t enough, the Allstate Life Insurance(SM) New York 13.1 Marathon® has for the second straight year issued a challenge to area runners with the NY/NJ Challenge.  Finishers of both the New York 13.1 in Flushing Meadows Corona Park on March 23 and The New Jersey Marathon on May 5 (yes… six weeks apart!) will receive an additional, stylish medal.

The Challenge is free for entrants registered for both events.  A few hundred runners competed in both races last year.

“The NY/NJ Challenge is a fun way to highlight the fact that so many runners compete in both of these outstanding events,” said Greg Laird, Founding Partner and CEO of US Road Sports & Entertainment Group, which operates both events.  “We believe that this accomplishment – two major races in a six-week period –  deserves special recognition, and the medal was so well-received last year that we brought the NY/NJ Challenge back, bigger and better in 2013.”

March 23 will mark the fourth time the NY 13.1 race has been run at Flushing Meadows.
