Foley’s NY Pub & Restaurant Renamed “Chipper’s” in Honor of Retiring Atlanta Brave Slugger

In acknowledgement of his Hall of Fame career and great performances against the New York Mets over the past two decades, Foley’s NY Pub & Restaurant (18 West 33rd St.) will rename itself Chipper’s — after retiring Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones — during the weekend of September 7-9, 2012 as the Mets host the Braves.

“Sometimes you have to tip your cap to your opponent.  There are few opponents in recent memory who have been as successful as Chipper Jones a visiting player in New York City,” said Shaun Clancy, owner of Foley’s, widely recognized as New York’s top baseball bar.  “While Chipper has broken the hearts of many Mets fans over the years, New Yorkers are as knowledgeable as anyone and they know greatness when they see it — even when it resulted in disappointment for their hometown team.

A lifetime .304 hitter during his 19-year career, Chipper Jones is the Braves’ all-time RBI leader with 1,615 (as of August 22) and the franchise’s home run leader in Atlanta. (Henry Aaron played the first 12 years of his career as a Milwaukee Brave before the team moved following the 1965 season.) The eight-time All-Star’s career highlights include two Silver Slugger Awards (1999, 2000), NL MVP Award (1999), NL Batting Champion (2008) and World Series champion (1995).  In 88 career games at Shea Stadium, Chipper Jones hit .313 with 19 home runs and 55 RBI.  Of Jones’ 467+ lifetime home runs, 49 have been hit against the New York Mets, tying him for second with Mike Schmidt behind Willie Stargell’s 60.

Chipper’s/Foley’s, will also be serving chips (what the Irish call French fries) in ten different ways in honor of the eight-time All-Star’s # 10:

1. Classic chips
2. Spicy Wedges
3. Southern Chips (Sweet potato fries)
4. Poutine (Chips with cubes of mozzarella and gravy)
5. Mountain of Chips (Chips with mozzarella, cheddar and bacon)
6. Chili Chips
7. Disco Chips (Chips and Gravy)
8. Curry Chips
9. Tex-Mex Chips (Chips with guacamole and salsa)
10. Fish & Chips
