James Blake won his singles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles events, helping the visiting Boston Lobsters to a 22-15 World TeamTennis victory over the New York Sportimes at Sportime on Randall’s Island in N.Y. Wednesday night.
After Blake and Raquel Kops-Jones won the opening event (set), 5-2, over Abigail Spears and Robert Kendrick, Spears won her third straight singles match on the season, topping Coco Vandeweghe, 5-2, to even the match for the Sportimes (2-1).
Blake then won his singles event, 5-1, to put the Lobsters (1-1) ahead, 12-8, before Vandeweghe and Kops-Jones rallied from a 3-0 deficit to win, 5-3, over Spears and Ashley Harkleroad to push Boston’s lead to 17-11.
Blake teamed with fellow American Eric Butorac on the men’s doubles win for the final margin.
The teams complete the “home and home” series with a matchup in
Boston on Thursday.
