Kotalik Reportedly Holding Up Deal

Al trade that looked all but done last night is now on hold as the Rangers and Flames await work for Ales Kotalik.

According to the NY Post, Kotalik is taking his time in deciding whether to accept the trade that will send the disgruntled winger along with Christopher Higgins to Calgary in exchange for Olli Jokinen and Brandon Prust.

In the meantime, Jokinen and Prust will dress tonight as the Flames will take on the Flyers, while Higgins will accompany the Blueshirts to Los Angeles. Kotalik, who was sent home yesterday, is in New York.

Since Kotalik is the centerpiece of the trade, if he does not accept the trade, the deal will fall apart and the Rangers will be left holding a player, who does not want to play for the team and is owed $6 million over the next two seasons.

But if something can be worked out, then the Blueshirts may have found a short term solution for Marian Gaborik’s pivot, as Jokinen will slot in there for the rest of the season. He is an unrestricted free agent this summer.
