If you're gonna need the pen to pitch 3 innings in every game you start the odds of them blowing a game for you go way up. I never recall Seaver having this problem because he finished his games. Yeah yeah I know the game has changed blah blah blah. To be worth the money he's getting he has to be a guy that can throw complete games otherwise youre better off spending the money on top arms for the pen and start your rookie arms and sign a bunch of Livans.

GET THE PIECE OF CRAP CRAPPO OFF MY TEAM NOW!!!!!

The CRAPPO does most things upside down: eats, sleeps (an average of 23 hours per day), mates, and gives birth. Because of the CRAPPO'S upside down life, many of the CRAPPO'S internal organs (liver, stomach, spleen, pancreas) are in different positions from other mammals. CRAPPO sometimes lets out a cry or hissing sound.

During the rare times the CRAPPO goes down to the ground (such as to change trees for food), it moves very slowly.

The '99 and '06 pens had great offenses backing them up too. It's a lot easier to do your job when you know that your team is going to get the job done...

Though to be fair, this team has won a reasonable amount of the games that the bullpen has blown, more than should be expected really. The offense has more balls than talent most of the time...

When the "O" is lacking the bullpen is exposed, agreed. Fact is this team is going no where with this bullpen. Best the Mets could hope for is winning the division which is only a reality because Philly and FLA aren't that good either.

Valid point but the money you cited is the reason they have pitch counts in the first place and in turn why pitchers don't finish games. It's about protecting the investment and that's the organization's position, not the player's position.

To be fair, I would say in the case of Johan, it's more like two innings since he seems to go around seven innings, not six. Most major league pens have a capable set up man and closer to get the job done.

Is it natural for them to blow a game here or there? Sure, but six in a little over 2/3 of a season is inexcusable.

No way. Derek Bell should be third on that list.

Joe Nathan, anyone? He's probably been the best closer not named Mariano Rivera in the past half decade.

Ah, I remember the scorn myself and Hat got at the start of last season for saying the bullpen wasn't good enough (and again this season) and the various volleys of "teams don't lose seasons because of a bullpen".

Don't know about you Hat, but I'm feeling pretty vindicated at this point.
