Default Vidro for the bench?

Jose Vidro has been designated for assignment. If he is released after 10 days the Mets would be only responsible for the prorated minimum. Not that I am biased but I'd rather have him off the bench as a lefty (than Anderson when he returns) or Cancel as a righty and he would take up only one roster spot. He can also spot Delgado at first AND would provide a more than adequate #2 hitter when needed. Lately he has been hitting better and for the rest of the season and the ML minimum, I think Mets can't go wrong... Heck, we've given just about everyone else a chance...

Out of respect for LVD... no comment.

LOL... Thanks

But seriously, not saying he is the answer to Mets problems, but wouldn't he be a better option than the 2 I mentioned? He is "least worst"

Lefty bat off the bench? He's hitting. 239 with a sub .290 OB% as a lefty and only .222 with a embarrassing .237 OB% as a RH hitter.

If he could catch like Cancel you could make an argument. But, at the point of his career he's a DH who can't hit and sadly, I'd actually prefer Anderson right now even though he's on the DL.

Would he be willing to go to AAA for a couple weeks to learn to hit again?

you want us to take a chance on a player that was castoff by the worst team in their league?

Can someone draw me a diagram of where this makes sense.

Damn, I remember not long ago when he and Fonzie were among the best second basemen in the league.

Both of their careers went down quicker than joelfreak on Ron Jeremy.

All very good points...I must agree. I was going based on the fact that he has hit much better lately and Mets might catch lightning in a bottle.... without much risk. BUT I must admit, you guys have made some good points.

The problems with Vidro seem to begin when he gets off the bench. Is this guy really 33, or a Fonzie 33?

No he is really 33. That's why I mentioned with a smurk that I wasn't biased. He played Little League on my team when he was 5 years old. He does have legs of a 40 yr old player... has always had knee problems. He is a very very close friend of mine... so I could be biased.... maybe.

I would also, like to add that Omar, Tatis and Vidro are also close friends.

Cancel and Anderson are better options than Vidro.
