Can someone point me to where this declaration was? Is it that post in the Nick Evans thread?

I believe Joe Garagiola is still alive.

To further emphasize the point of the thread, look at the lineup today!

LOTTA rookie contributions today.

Nice situational hitting by Evans and Murphy. GREAT double play by Argenis Reyes to save 2 runs and a potentially big inning....

Would Randolph have ever let THREE neophytes play in the same game?

Point being, if you have a good enough CF, your LF doesn't have to be a gold glove candidate.
And to add.. Gary Maddox.. a gold glove CF in his day.

While we're talking about this subject. I rememer Willie basically throwing cold water on Angel Pagan's hot streak early in the season. Willie said something like Pagan is a young guy who's a "flash in the pan" amd that no matter how he did Alou was gonna be the starting left fielder. Willie if he was a diplomatic gentleman such as I would have said. "I'm very pleased with what Angel Pagan has shown and I'm sure he'll get some playing time when our injured outfielder returns."

Steamboat was an arrogant nitwit.

Scratch that, I'm sure he still is an arrogant nitwit.

Jerry Manuel is like Yoda in comparison.

bottom line....the team likes Jerry and they play for him.

I dont even care about the difference in wins/losses....

With Willie at the helm, any deficit was insurmountable. This team has a lot more fight.

I am not saying they are the grittiest team around, b/c they are not...but a hell of a lot more under Manuel.

I also applaud Manuel's honesty about player performance. He has a way of chastising, but in a "fatherly" way. Willie was so condescending.

Or the approach Manuel is taking with Castillo... that he has to earn his job back.
