Default Mets Need OF Help, But Don't Have The Horses

Doesn't look like Mets can make a deal

He's not sure how the Mets can be a factor? Who are these guys you talk to? How many horses would Barry Bonds cost? I think that would change the market a bit.

Barry Bonds? What does he have to do with no farm system? And if you think the Wilpons are signing that guy, you're as nuts as the guys that think Mat Holliday is coming here too.

I agree with the people who are uncertain of how Holliday would fare outside of Coors anyhow so I've no problems with the fact that the Mets can't get him. Now my question is, while the Mets may not have the chips to get the flashy names, might they have the resources to pick up somebody solid for the OF that these executives around baseball might not be thinking about so far as deadline deals go?

I don't think it would require all that many "horses" to acquire a Randy Winn/Raul Ibanez type player.

there would be absolutely no farm to work with whatsoever after the deal. it is a pick your poison type thing.

Randy Winn would actually be a cool guy to get. He wouldn't knock anyone's socks off, but he'd be a solid every day player.

Does anyone actually watch these games? Winn is fast, but no better then what is already being trod out there every night.

The only guys I would trade for an outfielder are Fagner, Crapiilo or Das Boot. Enough with ravaging the farm. Sign Bonds. If he sucks you just release him and it didnt cost you a thing but the upside is enormous.

The McGimpy does most things upside down: eats, sleeps (an average of 23 hours per day), mates, and gives birth. Because of the McGimpy's upside down life, many of the McGimpy's internal organs (liver, stomach, spleen, pancreas) are in different positions from other mammals. McGimpy sometimes lets out a cry or hissing sound.

During the rare times the McGimpy goes down to the ground (such as to change trees for food), it moves very slowly.

I wouldnt say that...the guy is a career .280/.350 OB%/.770 OPS hitter who has played every day. While Tatis, Chavez, ect might be able to hit like that for short stretches they aren't doing that over 400+ ABs.

The real issue with Winn is that he's being paid 8+ million this year and next and he's clearly not worth that kind of money.

Very little in terms of depth, but when you have a talent like Fernando Martinez they can be in play on anything they want. Look no further than CC.

I think its more of an issue that the Mets dont want to give up their top tier talent for whats on the market and their second tier depth is very shallow.

Call up Fernando and see if he's ready! There have been kids who have been called up and made a difference. Remember when Miguel Cabrera got the called, he helped the Marlins when a world series.

Alou is getting that THIS season, for just about a couple of cameo appearances.

Depending on what the Giants would want (if they are even shopping Winn), I would take him, and keep him as the LF for next season as Martinez gets another half-season/full season in AA or AAA... Either way, the Mets would have had to go shopping for OF this winter anyway. The Mets would be nuts if they pick up Alou's option. Very foolish.

Winn isn't a power bat by any stretch, but what I am looking for is solid, steady day in-day out guy who is dependable. Winn fits that, IMO. I think a big key is Church, obviously.
