I'm no Jon Sickels, but who exactly is the interesting prospect in that package? Sean Gallagher isn't highly regarded and Matt Murton has been pegged as a AAAA player. Is Eric Patterson or the other guy a big deal?

That's a pretty good 1-2 punch they've got now.

Wow. He's no CC, but the Scrubs were better than the Brew-Crew before this.

If the Mets are gunna play October baseball, they're going to need to win the division.

Jesus, Harden AND Guadin... That must be one hell of a prospect package.

JMO, but if Harden stays healthy, he's better than CC.

I agree he's better than CC, but he's just about as reliable as El Duque.

Umm wow that seems like a complete steal for the Cubs. Even if Harden is an injury mess, the guy is one of the best pitchers in baseball when he's on the mound.

I think the deal was done by Oakland because Harden has been struggling to go 5 of late and will probably be back on the DL about 2 starts after the all-star break but the Cubs still gave up virtually nothing impact wise for him.

I'll say this sounds really similar to the Hudson deal, in the Oak took a stab at quantity for a guy they feel is damaged goods.

And how did that deal work out for them? Are any of those guys amount to anything? Hudson seems to be A-OK This pkg for not one ..but TWO pitchers, seems pretty weak...IF..IF...IF HArden stays healthy of course..and if he does..Beane blows another one to me..

This might be the death blow for Jerome.

Harden was his second choice to be giftwrapped to the Yankees.

Gallagher hasn't received much of a chance with the Cubs. He is considered the centerpiece of the deal. Billy Beane sees him as a potential #3 or #4 starter. The A's see Eric Patterson as a replacement for potential free agent Mark Ellis at second base. Murton will probably be a decent fourth outfielder at some point. The fourth player, Josh Donaldson, was the Cubs second-round pick last year but has not done as well as expected so far.

Agreed. I'm not saying the Hudson deal was a good one, I was saying we'll probably look back on this one the same way. Oak tried to get 4 usable parts, but I dont see any of those guys being impact players at all

There's also been talk that Harden's lost 3-4 MPH on his FB the last few starts and has been throwing in the 88-91 range rather then the 91-94 which could indicate he's breaking down again.

A's need hitting, though. While it's good to have a reliable cheap 3/4 starter over time, the other guys they received are not barn burners. Wow, Cubs really did well this time.
