Default Viable Outfield Options

Anyone have any thoughts about viable outfield options? I know a lot of people want bonds, but realistically, what do you think the mets outfield situation will look like on august 1st?

How bout like a Jay Payton, Jody Gerut or Randy Winn type player?

I wonder if a Bonds/Alou platoon in LF would keep them both healthy enough to stay off the DL...

I'd be very interested in a rotating system in left and right until Church can come back in full force, possibly even after he comes back. Bonds and Alou in left, Chavez and Church in right. Maybe some days giving both Bonds and Alou off with Church in right and Chavez in left or other days give Beltran a day off and play Bonds in left and Alou in right. You could have the entire outfield rested properly while still not losing much offense.

Seriously, I know myself and others have been chiming for him for two or three years now, but Bonds makes sense right now.

First step is for the Mets org (and fans) to stop thinking Alou is going to be a factor. As good a hitter he is, he has also hurt this team more than he has helped. This is Omar's mindset and he has to to lose that before he can do anything else.

The big key here is Church. If he has to shut it down the rest of the season, Omar is going to have to get at least ONE OFer. This team is winning sh!t with Tatis and Chavy as their everyday corner OFers.

Ibanez makes sense for many reasons. JMO, but I think the Mets can get him similar to the deal they made for Castillo (low level prospects).

I am inching closer to the Bonds bandwagon, but the Mets are going to avoid him much like everyone else has.

Maybe they could create a 7 1/2 day DL.

Ladies and gentlemen, say hello to the first-place New York Mets.

Well, tied for first place in the NL East with the Phillies at 52-44. But with a 10-game winning streak, and with the way the Mets rallied for a 10-8 win over the Reds last night, it seems like only a matter of time before the Mets leave the rest of the division in the rearview mirror.
You ****ing knew it after reading that.

I'd like for Omar to just do something.

I can't take aguila, endy, anderson, tatis all the time. None really provide a spark.

I'd look at Juan Rivera with the Angels. Not sure of the cost but he's a RH hitting corner OFer with power and BA potential.

And you wouldn't have to give up a ton to get him

That's true considering he's signed for 8.25 mil next year.

He also has a limited no trade clause to 10 teams.

I dont think that guys like Payton, Gerut, or Rivera are an upgrade over the crap we see out there now.

Winn is a decent OFer, having a decent year, but much like Ibanez I dont really want to see the Mets pay anything to get those guys. If they can be had for spare parts and pure garbage like Muniz and such sure go for it, but I dont want to see anything of actual value go out the door (aka Carp, Niese, Murphy, Evans types) ...both these guys make too much for their typical production (or at least the production I'd expect from aging OFers going forward) IMO.

Dunn is a butcher, but he's likely outta Cincy and he's on pace for another 40 HR, 100 RBI, 100+ BB season. His biggest problem is that he's another lefty bat in this lineup (same deal with Ibanez really) and how much do you spend on a possible rental/how much does Cincy want considering they can keep him and get a draft pick.

Mets badly need some RH pop....which brings us back around again to Bay and Nady. Supposedly TB is hot after Bay tho which makes the Mets chances to get him slim to none and likely sets Nady's price as well.

Is Thames still being shopped by Det?

Considering that Alou makes that much for nada do you think that he'd tell SF to **** off if they tried to trade him to NY?

The Rays are interested in Nady or Bay.

If they were able to get Payton, he could probably come here and winning a batting champ title.
