The New York Mets don’t deserve Willie Randolph. He’s far too decent for the clowns that run this franchise.

He’s plenty competent, too. Is he the reason for Billy Wagner’s blown saves? Is he the reason Pedro Martinez and Ryan Church got hurt? Is he the reason Carlos Delgado isn’t hitting or that David Wright can’t get a clutch hit?

At some point, the manager always takes the fall for whatever goes wrong. That’s life.

Maybe the next guy will get Jose Reyes more interested. Maybe he’ll make sure Pedro stays healthy.

Randolph understands how it works and probably has learned a few things in his first stint as a manager. Only a dramatic winning streak could save him now, and the Mets aren’t capable of that.

Perhaps the only redeeming thing for Randolph is that once he goes, GM Omar Minaya will become the next guy to blame. Lost in the frenzy to fire Randolph is the fact Minaya is the guy who put this club together.

If Randolph goes, Minaya should certainly go with him. He eventually will, too, because the people above him have no idea what they’re doing.

That's an old article, I remember reading it... I wonder if somebody tried to edit something now that the article has gone down the memory hole, and it automatically re-timestamped it.

Ladies and gentlemen, say hello to the first-place New York Mets.

Well, tied for first place in the NL East with the Phillies at 52-44. But with a 10-game winning streak, and with the way the Mets rallied for a 10-8 win over the Reds last night, it seems like only a matter of time before the Mets leave the rest of the division in the rearview mirror.
You ****ing knew it after reading that.

Willie wasnt fired. We were all dreaming it... sort of like the last episode of Newhart. The big difference is, that Newhart episode was VERY funny. Nothing is funny about this bunch of jerks.

Still the greatest series ending episode, ever.

And I'm not sure what anyone can ever do to top it.

I agree, and it probably will never be topped. It was perfection.
