Default 36 Years Ago Today...

Tom Seaver threw a 1 hitter in the first game of a holiday double header at Shea against the Padres. Leron Lee scored the only Padre hit, a 9th inning single to center with one out.

Seaver's Line that day:

Code:
New York Mets IP H R ER BB SO HR
Seaver W(11-4) 9 1 0 0 4 11 0

Wliie Mays had pretty good numbers for the Mets in 72. I still remember him homering in his Met debut.

The McGimpy does most things upside down: eats, sleeps (an average of 23 hours per day), mates, and gives birth. Because of the McGimpy's upside down life, many of the McGimpy's internal organs (liver, stomach, spleen, pancreas) are in different positions from other mammals. McGimpy sometimes lets out a cry or hissing sound.

During the rare times the McGimpy goes down to the ground (such as to change trees for food), it moves very slowly.

I remember that HR like it was yesterday. This was the closest any Met pitcher came to a no-no, correct?

Yes, I believe so. I don't recall any Mets pitcher going 8 2/3 and then blowing it with one out to go.

Seaver went 8 2/3 innings against the Cubs at Wrigley Field on September 24th, 1975. It wouldn't have counted under the current no-hitter rules anyway since the game was 0-0.

Retrosheet Boxscore: Chicago Cubs 1, New York Mets 0
