Default Is there really a good LF that we can get??

After watching today's game and listening to the FAN afterwards it has become apparent that we will need a LF with some "pop". Manuel admitted that he is no longer counting on Alou coming back at all.

Therefore, the search begins. The question is who can we really get in a trade?

Names that have started to pop up are..

1. Ibanez
2. Nady
3. Dunn? (has pop but can't hit with RISP).

Anyone else available????

An interesting name mentioned on the FAN was Matt Holliday. Would the Rockies actually let this guy go??? It wouldn't matter much to us for we have no one in the farm system (except Martinez) that the Rockies would want.

I liked Ibanez until I saw his age. I like him, but all things equal, I'd give Kenny Lofton a call. He would only cost money.

Matt Holliday? I don't see how the Mets would have the chips to snag him, but I'd try. Even if the numbers come down because of the Coors Factor.. the guy can hit, solid glove, and someone I'd consider an impact player, difference maker in the lineup.

The Pirates probably want a boatload for Nady or Bay (should be on the list as well), and if that is the case, I'd rather give the boatload to the Rox for Holliday.

Dunn? Not a fan. And he's lefty.

Out of those three choices I would say Nady, only because he is RH. This team needs a good RH bat in the middle of the lineup.

We can't get anyone worth talking about. However, the Mets may have the resources.

At this point if they make a trade with the Pirates, I would rather see them send major league ready talent (Heilman, Pelfrey, some high AAA players, Perez etc....) for a contract and Steve Pearce and/or one of their talented pitchers. He is blocked in their system right now. The guy can straight up hit. Just move him to LF instead of right. At worst it gives the Mets another trade chip or the opportunity to move FMart if the deal is right. Pearce could come up and platoon with Nixon in the meantime.

Also gives Delgado some incentive to start playing better as Pearce can play 1st and/or give Delgado a day off.

That's the kind of player we need -- young and low cost. That would leave money available for Sabbathia.

I think this is HUGE, because Willie and Omar could never bring themselves around to saying this. It needs to be said, and it needs to be carried out.

Rios would be ideal, but I would suspect a lot to be given up for him.

Even if his influence on the team doesn't last longer than any of the other "turning points" this season, I like how straight talking he is. Reading today, it seems he even addressed the notion of a racial divide in the clubhouse during yesterdays team meeting. He said he didn't believe there was one, but he'd heard a lot about it and decided to talk about it just in case.

Nice to see an end to the usual "everything's fine" spin if nothing else.

What's the "it" that needs to be carried out exactly? There is practically no one to trade (unless you want to do a stupid panic trade involving Fernando Martinez).

If you can conceive a deal for Holliday, Bay or Nady that does not involve Wright, Reyes, Santana, Church, Maine, Pelfrey, F-Mart, or Carp (ie: "Robbing Peter to pay Paul") I would love to hear it. I would not mind moving Beltran in a trade like this if they (or a third team) are willing to take on the money and we can somehow get a quality replacement centerfielder also somehow, but even that more than likely fills a hole while creating another one. Otherwise, I think that we are looking at sucking up 2008 with what we have and looking at the free agent market in November.

Unless they envision whomever they trade for being a solution for the next few years, I'd rather the Mets not make yet another bad deal just because "they have to." Sign Lofton, do something else, just don't throw away more young talent.

This is the consequence of the "hope is the plan" approach to the OF situation. The fact that this team never did anything to prepare for the inevitable losses of Alou and Duque - after two seasons in which losing one or both of them pretty much torpedoed legit shots at the World Series - is jawdroppingly stupefying (not to mention the best arguments as to why Omar should be shitcanned, and why the Mets should overpay for reliable middle-shelf talent starting this offseason).

Ladies and gentlemen, say hello to the first-place New York Mets.

Well, tied for first place in the NL East with the Phillies at 52-44. But with a 10-game winning streak, and with the way the Mets rallied for a 10-8 win over the Reds last night, it seems like only a matter of time before the Mets leave the rest of the division in the rearview mirror.
You ****ing knew it after reading that.
