written by Willie Randolph himself.

Willie Randolph opens up after his recent firing as Mets manager

Quote:
Now, on Black Tuesday, we'd just beaten the tough Los Angeles Angels, playing one of our best games of the season. Mets VP Tony Bernazard came into my office.

"Omar wants to see you in his room when you get back to the hotel," he said.
Quote:
I stood up and shook his hand, told him I wished him and the team well. Then he handed me an envelope, a little parting gift, and told me to make sure I reviewed it with my agent, Ron Shapiro.

It was a copy of my Met contract that basically says I better not say anything detrimental about the team, or I might jeopardize the rest of the money I have coming to me.
Quote:
I thought I'd at least get to the next Yankee series, or the All-Star break maybe.

Heck, just Sunday night, before we left to fly to California, Omar and I had a heart-to-heart near the trainer's room.

I said to him, "Listen, I know you are under a lot of pressure, that there's stuff going on. If you feel you want to do this now, go ahead and do it.

"But don't make me get on the plane if I'm not the guy you want."

OMAR GRABBED my hand and told me not to think like that; things were still being evaluated. I gave him every opening, but for whatever reason he didn't want to take it.

My god, how dramatic this has all become. What the hell is next? The knives coming out and Willie screaming "Et tu, Omar?"

Only the Mets could fire a manager the vast majority of the fanbase wanted gone, and in the way they fired him turn the guy into a martyr.

*clap*

So here is the $3.4 million question. . .

Do you think that anything in that article consituted "comments detrimental to the team"??

They would be positively insane to make an issue out of any of this and sue Randolph on top of this other gigantic mess they created.

This actually makes me feel less bad for Wilie. The organization ****ed up for sure, but STFU about it. Whining is not going to get your job back.

Three and a half years and 555 games after it began, my dream of bringing a championship to the New York Mets is well on its way. I'm not worried. Suite 1602 of the Westin Hotel in Costa Mesa, Calif. is just another hotel room.

You've heard of Black Friday? Well, maybe there is a little something there. How come they don't call it White Friday?

Call me naive if you want, but I never saw it coming. I was sitting on a sofa across from Omar Minaya. It was just another sofa. No big deal.

Now, on Black Tuesday, we'd just beaten the tough Los Angeles Angels, playing one of our best games of the season. Mets VP Tony Bernazard came into my office.

"Omar wants to see you in his room when you get back to the hotel," he said.

"Which room," I replied. "Because in order for me to get to another room, it would involve a type of switch. I would be leaving this one and entering another and then having to come back here. You could almost call it a 'double switch'. How about I just follow you there?" There had been a slew of stories in recent days, stuff that the media was blowing out of proportion, that a couple of my coaches, Rick Peterson and Tom Nieto, were about to be fired. Those stories aren't something I worry about. That's for you guys.

Anyway, when I walked into the room Omar asked me to sit down. I asked him if I could have Schoeney sit down for me instead, because he's been so reliable. He's my go-to guy. Omar told me I couldn't. He sat right across from me. Just another place in the room. No big deal. He started talking about how the team was underperforming, how it needed to turn around. I wasn't listening because I knew that he was talking about stuff that you guys in the media wanted to blow out of proportion...

Actually, I hope he keeps talking.

I agree that Willie needed to go, but the Mets org needs to be badly exposed here for the crap they are pulling.

I agree. I didn't even like him, but what they did to him was wrong.

I was wondering if that was only in effect for the remainder of his contract or if they could come after him even after he has collected each dime.
