ESPN - Plenty of options for GM, managerial openings - MLB

This is an article about possible GM's and Managers, and I nearly threw up reading this:

Quote:
• Joey Cora: The White Sox bench coach is a name already bouncing around the Mets' rumor mill -- and not just because he's from the same town (Caguas, Puerto Rico) as the Mets' VP for player development, Tony Bernazard. Cora is a bright, bilingual man who has won as a player and a coach. And he's viewed as a guy who could make an impact in a heavily Latino clubhouse. "My only reservation," said one baseball man who has known Cora for nearly 20 years, "is, I don't know how well he'd handle the media in New York City."
My hatred for Tony B deepens.

Other names I found interesting on the list...and also made me feel a bit old:

Jerry "oh no" Dipoto - rising young Asst. Gm for ARZ
and future mgr candidates...
Tim Bogar
Pat Kelly
Andy Fox
Jamie Quirk

Why is this even brought up? Seriously, what the f*ck does where he was born have to do with his qualifications for the job? It's f*cking appalling that the Mets run their business with things like this in mind. If there wasn't abundant evidence to the contrary I'd say whoever wrote the article brought it up out of sheer stupidity and it was no reflection on the Mets' thought process.

It's just absolutely insane, that because a guy is a paisan he gets an advantage automatically, whether he is the most qualified or not. F*cking sickening.

You know either Luis Sojo or Don Mattingly will be managing this team next year.

The last time Jayson Stark was right about anything was like, never. That's why most of his columns and blogs are all about silly numbers and whacky occurrences that nobody really cares about...

He still has a Philly beat writer mentality too, and if you read the rest of the article there's tons of ball washing in it. Everyone in the Philly front office will be a GM next year...

And for what it's worth, the article also says that Jeffie wants Oberkfell...

If Omar is running this team, Sojo sounds like a good fit for Omar

I think the whole point of bringing Oberkfell to NY was to get him exposure to the limelight. I watched Burkhart (sp?) interview him and he seems like a great guy. He has proven himself year after year in the minors too, IMO.

I have nothing against Latinos in general, but the emphasis on this connection to the team is of ridiculously epic proportions. Enough already.

Here's an idea. Instead of hiring another amigo, let's make the "heavily Latino clubhouse" less heavy.
