Default Separated at birth? Willie and Chone?

Anyone else do some double takes during this series?

I'd like to see Figgins or Kendrick in a Mets uni, playing 2B...

I'd settle for Orlando Hudson in 2009. I think we'd love that guy if he were a Met.

Well, tied for first place in the NL East with the Phillies at 52-44. But with a 10-game winning streak, and with the way the Mets rallied for a 10-8 win over the Reds last night, it seems like only a matter of time before the Mets leave the rest of the division in the rearview mirror.
You ****ing knew it after reading that.

If Omar doesn't make it to 2009 I would think and hope that the new GM would attempt to purge the team of Omar's mistakes such as telling Delgado not to let the door hit him on the way out (HEY CARLOS, I'M GOING TO BE HERE LONGER THAN YOU! would be a fitting good-bye) and trading/releasing Castillo (a trade would be ideal, eating a portion of his contract, and getting something in return). Then sign Hudson, a non-crippled corner outfielder (hopefully Church returns and plays well in '08 so that the front office doesn't have to look for two corner outfielders), make some smart deals with relievers, and get younger with the bench.

What about the two starting pitchers they will need?

Ah, who needs 'em? Santana, Maine, Pelfrey, then you and SC could fill out the rotation.

Seriously, the fact that I forgot that the Mets will need to pick up two quality starters (one of which should probably be a number two type pitcher) amongst everything else that I listed shows how much trouble this franchise could be in if the philosophy and mentality isn't changed in the front office.

They're really not paying Castillo that much money... that said, the Mets would never eat that ~$18m remaining on his deal, and he'd never accept a bench role (at least, I don't think). Sadly, I think we're stuck with him.

My more realistic hopes for changes in next year's lineup are...

1) Carp at 1B (though Tex is a great player, and if Carp weren't making himself into a cheap young solution, I'd say the Mets should go after him)
2) Castro starting behind the plate (which they'd need to get going on now, by which I mean they should see what they can get for Schneider, who's just awful), and...
3) Burrell in LF (even disregarding his monster walk year, he makes sense on a lot of levels).

My secret hope is that they make C.C. Sabathia priority number one on the pitching front, especially now that his down year could reduce his asking price... but they could do worse than go after a guy like Derek Lowe.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Claudio Vargas and Jon Niese get long looks (Niese seems to be taking "the leap," and will shoot past 400 minor league IP this year if he stays healthy).
