Default My deep hatred for Steve Phillips...

...tripled during Mike & Mike in the Morning. In regards to Omar's autonomy and firing Willie debacle Phillips threw in this little tidbit, "If it were up to me I would have fired Bobby Valentine a year and half earlier, but the Wilpons wouldn't let me." Now, I knew he and Bobby V had a difficult relationship, but the fact that he made that statement blew my mind.

What a f*cking douche.

How many times did he mention that he drafted David Wright?

Well, tied for first place in the NL East with the Phillies at 52-44. But with a 10-game winning streak, and with the way the Mets rallied for a 10-8 win over the Reds last night, it seems like only a matter of time before the Mets leave the rest of the division in the rearview mirror.
You ****ing knew it after reading that.

So he would have fired him before the ASB, 2001. Pre-comeback. Yeah, that's something to brag about.

He made Mike Golic introduce him as "the man who drafted David Wright". LOL.

Seriously?

Funny how he never mentions he's also the man who tried to trade David Wright for Jose Cruz Jr.

No, but the fact that you thought that what I said could have been true shows what kind of pretentious as*hole the guy is.

The moment Baseball Tonight jumped the shark was when ESPN brought on John Kruk and Steve Phillips. Those two killed what was once must see TV for any baseball fan.

Wait, why is he a douche for wanting to fire Valentine a year and a half earlier?

Valentine lost the clubhouse and the team spent a 2002-2003 as a disgrace .

Phillips may be a horrible GM but cant fault the guy for speaking the truth. People here expect Omar to say that kind of **** right now while hes in a job and call him a phony?

People forget, but Valentine was no cake walk. He got a lot out of scrubs and made guys over achieve in 2000 but aside from that his antics had me tired by the end of his tenure.

Oh so Valentine is responsible for 2003 now? Excellent.

Oh and why is he a douche for bragging he would have fired a manager before he somehow spurred a 44-29 run pulling a crappy Met team back into contention? No idea.

Phillips would have fired Valentine in '99 too, but he was too busy going to "rehab" after being caught banging the intern. There are very few people who would have gotten away with that, especially after they'd just been given their big break. That was when he realized that he could play the Wilpon's for fools whenver he wanted too...

Valentine meanwhile, bastard that he is, "lost it" as a manager because he threw himself into helping families suddenly missing a parent post 9/11. I can understand that he needed to go, but the hatred to him for losing his abilities as a manager is baffling. It's not because he stopped caring or just became crap, he was exhausted from being a truly good human being. Given the free pass *******s like Castro get in comparison to the villification *some* give guys like Bobby it makes me wonder at the blurring of morals and the need to be entertained when appraising a man.

Didn't Stevie P also rip on that Tony Bernazard for being in the clubhouse and interfering with the managers territory? Tony B seems like an idiot, so generally the more he gets ripped the better, but wasn't Phillips himself criticized for doing the exact same thing?
