Default When will Omar be canned?

When do they finally fire Omar 'Isiah' Minaya?

I need to see a few weeks of the Jerry Manuel Mets before voting. I think Omar could be fired before July 10 if the Mets really go in the tank. Otherwise, Omar gets the rest of the year. It makes no sense to change regimes during the July trade deadline period, or in August while there's still some level of trades available, or in September when there's nothing for a GM to do. Might as well appoint a new guy in the offseason when more candidates are available.

As to how the Mets fare over the next few weeks, who knows? Any team can play good or bad in a few weeks. Maybe everything clicks for a few weeks and all the credit goes into Manuel's pocket and even into Omar's for making the managerial change. If they get Church and even Alou back, that's a step in the right direction. More likely, they continue to show that they are about an 82-win team.

Getting Church and Alou back (a pipe dream at best) doesn't alter the performances we're getting with the bats from Delgado and Schneider, doesn't improve Castillo's energy level and doesn't ensure we're not getting a repeat of 2005 from Carlos Beltran.

Furthermore, it doesn't fix OP's consistency problems, doesn't get Maine back on the right track and doesn't ensure that the bullpen improves.

This team is better than they have been playing, but not by much.

Depending on Alou?

Omar's as good as fired.

I think the Mets should be both SELLERS at the deadline.

I agree that the Mets cannot depends on Alou at all, but it's possible that they get a few healthy weeks from Alou between the end of June and the beginning of July that could uplift the Mets enough to secure Omar's position through the rest of the season if you agree that there's no way Wilpon fires Omar between the middle of July and the end of the season.

They need to fire everybody else, too... or at least bring in a respected baseball man who knows how to control the backseat drivers. Once again, look down the Turnpike towards Philly - Gillick has brought order to a front office that historically has been even more of a joke than the Mets'.

Ladies and gentlemen, say hello to the first-place New York Mets.

Well, tied for first place in the NL East with the Phillies at 52-44. But with a 10-game winning streak, and with the way the Mets rallied for a 10-8 win over the Reds last night, it seems like only a matter of time before the Mets leave the rest of the division in the rearview mirror.
You ****ing knew it after reading that.
