Default Peterson fired?

According to Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus, citing ‘sources,’ the Mets have fired Rick Peterson.

However, Carroll adds, “As yet, this cannot be confirmed.”

…i’m not sure what that means…also, peterson is with the Mets tonight, in uniform, in Los Angeles…

That reporting is even shabbier than how the Mets are handling all this.

Breaking: Peterson (UPDATE - NOT!) Fired

by Will Carroll

Sources tell me that Rick Peterson has been fired as pitching coach of the New York Mets. As yet, this cannot be confirmed, though reports this weekend have been leaning this way. We’ll know more shortly.

UPDATE: The sources were both incorrect. My apologies for the error. I consistently got “no comments” from Mets sources and do believe that Peterson remains in jeopardy. However, that decision has not yet been made … or made public.

This whole thing has become an abject embarrassment.

If this is in fact true, does anyone think Leo Mazzone would deign to take a position with the Mets, or does he just have too much respect for himself?

It would be ridiculous to fire Peterson out of all the people involved in this. He'll find work real fast and get something out of a lot of nothing, which is basically what pitching in Baseball is these days...

How did Leo do in Baltimore without Maddux, Glavine, and Smoltz? Nowhere near as well as Peterson has done with the crap he's been dealt by the Mets. If people don't want Peterson near Pelfrey they'll just love Leo rocking back and forth as he walks the park...

All of this **** needs to cease. Just give the coaches until the end of the year, Willie too, and forget it. I am tired of the "Willie Watch"... its simply ****ing stupid.

This remind me of a time where a bald man and a fat man said the Mets signed Alou and then they signed Beltran four days before it happened on a site of ill repute.

I am almost in agreement with you.

This may all reach a point that by the time the Mets decide to do anything, they are going to look like complete ass hats doing it.

What I DO want is significant roster changes, but I don't think the Mets FO has the guts to do that either.

Mazzone's reputation has already been slightly tarnished while he was with Baltimore. Two months with the Mets will ensure he leaves the game as a Bobblehead clown. He's not that stupid.
