Bavasi made Steve Phillips look like John Schuerholz. Every single move he made involved bringing in declining talent or one-hit wonders at top dollar.

They could be looking to clean house.

Anyone you think could help the Mets?

Erik Bedard, if the Mets had the pieces to get him and if they could extend his contract. In an implausible scenario, the Mets could attempt a three-way deal where Oliver Perez is dealt for parts that go to Seattle, along with additional Mets propsects in exchange for Bedard.

If the Mets found their way back in the race, and if Trot Nixon stinks, then maybe Raul Ibanez would be a reasonable part of the left field situation.

Richie Sexson's contract is ominous enough and he's been disappointing enough that perhaps Seattle would consider trading Sexson for Delgado - two huge disappointments who could probably use a change of scenery. Maybe one side or the other would have to throw something else in. Both of their contracts expire after this season. Sexson's a much better fielder than Delgado, but Delgado is hitting a little better. I think the Mets could use Sexson's righty bat (or what's left of it) as a partial replacement for Alou's bat. Church, Nixon, and the switch-hitters provide enough lefty bats.

When I last saw Bedard against the Yankees he didn't look right at all. He was barely hitting 90 and the hip looked like a real problem. The fact remains that the guy is about to be 30 and has never had a 200 inning season in his career (he is on pace for 157 this year, with a 4.15 ERA and a lot less K's). I think the O's may finally have fleeced someone...
