It's believed that Minaya abruptly changed his travel plans as the Mets' team bus was about to depart Shea Stadium last night and quietly joined the team for its cross-country flight following Sunday's doubleheader split against the Rangers that left the Mets 33-35.

Minaya, who has steadfastly refused to offer any assurances of Randolph's or his coaches' job security, was asked point-blank if the same staff would be in place Monday at Angel Stadium.

The cryptic - or perhaps telling - response from Minaya: "Do I expect that? Look, they're our coaches today (Sunday). I'm not going to change what I've been saying before that. They're our coaches today. What I've said before is that they are our coaches - and the manager.

"Myself, as the general manager, I evaluate those things, especially with the team not doing what it should be doing. I always leave myself the room to evaluate those things."
Wow... this organization just can't get out of its own way. Clueless.... How do they not realize this whole "limbo" is doing far more damage than good?

What about Alomar. He is the golden standard for clueless 3rd base coaches...either that or he just has bad reflexes.

From what I hear on this site and a few others, many people are lobbying for Oberkfell to take over if Willie is ousted. Wonder if bringing him up in a lesser role would prevent him from ever taking the reigns.

If any of that story is true, it only pisses me off even more (if that's possible). What's next ? A vote of confidence for Willie ? Somehow, it wouldnt surprise me.

Changing coaches is worthless. A move so plainly just "change for change's sake" will probably have no impact. I don't think the Mets lose anything tactical by shedding Peterson or Nieto, but nothing worthwhile will be gained, either. It's not like these are Willie's handpicked coaches, either - this isn't a message to Willie the same way the firings under Valentine could be construed as a firing of Valentine's men, not that I cared for those firings, either.

At this point, the Mets will look ridiculous if they fire Willie a few weeks from now, which is still better than keeping him for the rest of the season. I just hope that Wilpon now fully regrets not firing Omar and Willie after the 2007 season.

Peterson isn't the problem now. 5 of the 7 relievers in the Mets pen have an ERA under 4 and have only recently been touched up. Pelfrey is finally pitching like we hoped he could and Perez has shown more flashes here than all but his breajout year in Pittsburgh. His only problems are his ego and his inability to get his pitchers past 6 innings.

Willie needs to go, Hojo needs to go and Sandy Alomar needs to go. Make Manuel interim, Obie bench coach to groom him to take over next year, bring in Gary Carter as hitting coach since he wants a job here so bad, and grab anyone off the street to coach third because they would have to be better than the past two we've had there.

You know what, if this is true, I'm changing my tune.

Omar needs to go. There I said it.

Sources have told the Daily News that principal owner Fred Wilpon and chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon have authorized Minaya to fire Randolph, pitching coach Rick Peterson and first base coach Tom Nieto. Bench coach Jerry Manuel would ascend to manager if Randolph is ousted, while Triple-A New Orleans manager Ken Oberkfell and pitching coach Dan Warthen would join the major league staff.

A team insider speculated that Randolph could survive a first round of firings, saying: "I think the coaches are in trouble. That may be the compromise for now."

Pressed with the point that no reporter was looking for an assurance of jobs for the year, a month or even a week - just for Monday's game - Minaya added: "I keep on answering the question the same way it's always been. We have a manager. We have coaches. ... You know my feelings on it. I think we're not playing to our potential. I always like to leave myself to be able to evaluate those things."
If he has, why hasn't he done it?

I hate this team, this organization, everything about it. The Mets have become as bumbling as they are unprofessional. Is Sandy Alomar Sr a friend of Omar's? Otherwise, especially after the Schneider debacle, how is he NOT even considered for this "round" of firing?

A joke. An embarrassment. Meet your 2008 New York Mets.

Omar is desperately trying to keep his kevlar vest (Willie) on as long as possible.

Manuel will be the choice because the bullsh!t can continue (Tony B., Omar's cronies, etc..). Not that it couldn't continue with Oberkfell at the helm, but I don't think he'd be quiet about it...

It's so pathetic.

Everyone needs to go. I never thought I'd think of Omar as worse than Phillips, but I'm nearly there.

How is Willie more valuable than Peterson? Sorry, this is just pathetic. Rick isn't to blame as much as Omar and Fred "Don't spend on the draft, but here is $ for Castillo" is for the last year or so.

Who replaces Peterson? I don't see why he must be fired. I hate this 'oh, we are not able to build a farm system or enact a plan or invest in the draft so we'll just pluck flaky pitchers and blame the pitching coach when it fails...'

I hate this ****. Every 4 ****ing years it's an overhaul.
