Default Trot Nixon

If Omar is looking for an experienced OF on the cheap (and realistically he may not have the chips to trade for a top OF) How about this guy?

Tucson Sidewinders: Stats: Player

Yeah, he's 34 (so it goes against my "age thing"), but of what might be readily available, he's hard-nosed, winning player, decent OF.. rotting away in AAA. He's not even on the D'Backs 40 man roster, so it may take little to pick him up.

All I know is that we can't have Chavy as the everyday corner OF. Enough of that sh!t. We need a stick in the OF.

Discuss.

Nixon was brutally bad last year. I think he is as washed up as can be. That said he's still better than Chavy.

Nixon spent half the season injured, if I am not mistaken. HE was also used mostly as a PH/occasional DH. He wasn't about to crack that young Tribe OF anyway.

I would rather Nady, Bay, or even Griffey, but I honestly think Omar hasn't the chips for any of those guys.

You can do worse than Nixon (and by seeing Chavy and Tatis in the lineup today, the Mets already have)...

He was penciled in as the starting Rfer last year. He struggled early on and then got hurt. He returned from the DL and was given other chances and continued to struggle. He couldn't even beat out dreck like Romero for a bench spot this year. No thanks to Griffey he has very little left and has been a clubhouse cancer most of his career.

As I said, anyone but Chavy, at this point. Hell, I'd even take Reggie Sanders ( and I can't stand him more than Lofton)...

During the rare times the McGimpy goes down to the ground (such as to change trees for food), it moves very slowly.

I would rather sacrifice '08 and get into the free agent market than to make a panic trade where we give up what little we have left.

Omar, IMO, will end up going the cheap route for an OF. All I know is that the current OF is unacceptable. He has to try SOMETHING other than foolishly depending on Alou, and allowing Willie to play both Tatis and Chavy in the OF, while they have an OF on the bench who was killing the ball in AAA (Aguila) - not saying that guy is the savior or anything, but there is really no harm in giving him a shot.

So he's old and oft-injured? No thanks.

I was corrected. Only had one DL stint early last season.
