"From ownership to the fan base, there is a general disgust about the lack of consistency the New York Mets have exhibited since sweeping the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2006 NLDS."

This is probably splitting hairs, but really I think that the problems started around June 1st of last year. They got off to a hot start in April and May of 2007, was anyone then still lamenting about the 2006 NLCS? If not, I don't think that it's fair to lump that into lamenting about the mediocrity from 6/1/07 until now.

OK, fair enough...some of us were nnoyed by the sloppy-ass effort and execution against a Cards team the Mets were far better than, and sme of us were flabbergasted at the idiocy of the subsequent offseason....:-)

Touce on this point. I would sure like to have Lindstrom and Bell right about now, how about you?

Has anyone seen Ben Johnson, Jason Vargas, or Ambiorix Burgos lately?

Honest to God, even when the Mets were 33-17 last season, I noticed something was off with them. I couldn't really describe it, and their record was certainly no indication of it, but something seemed wrong.

They'd win the first two games of a series and then mail in the third. They'd build a big lead and not pad it, and hang on to win 6-5, in a game they were leading 6-1 in the 5th. In games they lost, they just rolled over and died, even if it was the sole loss amidst four or five wins. Sh*t like that.

If I'm not mistaken, I think Dave has mentioned that BRD the Elder noticed something too right around the same time.

I remember them running away in 2006 and then playing like garbage down the stretch, not clinching and in fact getting swept by the bucs.

They were playing poorly for a while before the playoffs that year, but the 5 months of winning masked everything.

While I was creaming myself over the 33-17 start, my Dad, all of 66 years old, kept rambling on about how it did not seem like to same team to him. The 2006 Mets, in his eyes, had more "pimiento" and heart.

I told him he was full of it, btw.

It's not like these guys are missed, but yeah, it did seem to me like these were the only two scapegoats. I recall neither of them saying how bored they were.

"From ownership...."

Is that why Omar and/or Willie still have jobs? Look I doubt ownership is happy, but given last year, given the amount of money they spent this year, its long overdue to hold someone accountable....
