Default Aguila Called Up...

From Adam Rubin's DN Mets blog:

Quote:
Former Marlin Chris Aguila is headed to New York, Surfing the Mets has learned. He’ll replace Abraham Nunez, who was designated for assignment after Tuesday night’s game.

Aguila has been on a longball tear at Triple-A New Orleans. The 29-year-old outfielder, who was hitting .308 with 17 homers and 40 RBI as a Zephyr in 221 at-bats, has slugged eight homers in his last 11 games. He’s played nearly exclusively in left field for New Orleans.

I can't get excited about the Latin Darren Reed getting called up. Yes he's likely better than Chavy but who isn't? I think it says more about the lack of depth than anything that Aguila got called up.

It is sad when this is what counts as good news, but nonetheless, it is good news and it is sad.

I don't know. I'd like to see the guy get a chance, but I doubt Willie gives it to him anyway. At least, unlike Chavy, Aguila has known what to do with a baseball bat this year... Considering what have in the uncertainty with Church, and Chavy/Tatis platoon is a joke (IMO), why not? At this point, Aguila is the unknown... on other hand, we've already seen Chavy and Tatis, who got called up for doing much. much less in AAA...

What took so long? Do you guys think that having a single "l" instead of a double "ll" in his last name may have thrown them off?

He'll hit 5 HRs in his first week and then get a misdiagnosed injury and go on the DL after being day to day for a week.

His AAA stats are an aberration. I don't think he hits 1 HR or bats over .250 the entire time he's in the ML.

"let's not get excited here. The kid did a good job, but this is Chris Aguila we're talking about here. He'll come back to earth".

How long before we hear this?

Of course, that might depend on how much Willie lets him actually play, and lets him get more than one AB per week (and then telling us he ain't no Chavy). Trust me, I have no illusions (or delusions). I'm just tired of seeing them hopelessly trot Endy out there, asking him to be something that he is not.

Tatis, for all his hustle, is a bad OF.

Should Aguila flop...maybe THEN Omar will figure out he needs to get a pro OF.

Time to try something else.

No doubt it's time to try something else... but I'd rather be guarded with these kids I've never ever heard of.

LOL when we refer to 29 year old as "kids"... Sad state of this organization, I guess...

Well, when your corner outfielders have to be chosen from the 41-year-old Moises Alou, Endy Chavez and Fernando Tatis, what harm can this really do? On the other hand, it shows how shallow the OF talent pool is on this team.

I guess that the Italian guy wasn't as good as the Latino despite his superior numbers......
