Default Beltran...is he untouchable in your eyes?

Is Beltran, at this point, untouchable (as David Wright is) in your eyes? Or would you, if you were in charge, at least CONSIDER seeing what is out there for him?

Just asking, this has no agenda or anything else. Just wondering.

No.

He goes in the right deal. A deal like the Josh Hamilton deal where everyone wins. There's no reason to just dump Beltran IMO.

Not untouchable but apt to keep him (for at least one more year. . .like I said in the other thread, let's see what he can do if Teixiera or Dunn is batting behind him).

No. He is actually the big fish that could probably get you someone of potential impact back (prospects, at the very least), and really, he's tried, but overall, he's one of the shruggy, he-doesn't-want-to-be-here-and-doesn't-know-how-to-lead-a-clubhouse guys that have been a major problem in the overall makeup of this team.

Almost untouchable. The problem is the Mets would typically end up dealing him and get crap in return.

What, like having Damion Easley batting behind him shouldn't be enough?

Funny.. kinda the same thing that was said about Piazza. Wasn't fiery... not a leader... doesn't appear to care.

Nobody on this mess of a team is untouchable except the cheap young pitching talent which is basically Maine and Pelfrey.

Except Piazza, even in his weakest years here, never hit 16 homers in a full season, which Beltran did in 05, and is on pace for this season. And Mike never wanted to take less money to go to the Yankees.

Mike always talked to the media, good or bad day.

Apples and Oranges. Piazza was traded to the Mets and signed while still a Met whereas Beltran was a free agent.

As far as the media goes, Piazza was treated like garbage by a lot of the media. As a player coming to NY, would you want to talk to the media after seeing what they can do to the best Met player since the 80's?

Also, Beltran isn't a pure power hitter. As far as the 16 HR go, had a bad year, so what? It happens. Piazza couldn't even stay on the field the last couple years he was with the Mets.

To me, Piazza died and lived orange and blue in ways Beltran cannot (or most players). To be fair, after 98 loss to Atlanta, he needed to take time off to just drive and get it out of his system IIRC. That one (If not 99) really CRUSHED him. He loved ny and the team. He was just a shy person by nature (was known even when he was in LA) and wasn't meant to lead. But you saw it in his eyes he wanted to ****ing win.

That's all. Re: Beltran, I'd say he is not untouchable only because a player like Pujols is untouchable. I feel if Beltran can land a Hamilton TYPE or a Beckett type (if one were to exist) it's worth considering. I also feel he'd be fine with a new change in scenery, which is fine.

trading him would require confidence in my eyes from the guy making the trades, and right now no faith

Pelfrey? He signed a $5.25 million major league deal after he was drafted and has 7 career wins. That ain't cheap...
