Default Free Agent Starting Pitchers

Considering that Sabathia is putting up Anthony Young-type numbers so far this season (and probably wants Santana money anyway), is there anyone who impresses you who would be out there this winter?

The Mets, at worst, need a #2 and #4 for 2009. Going by that list, I'd look at Mark Mulder as a low risk/high reward type of signing.

If AJ were healthy he'd be a no brainer. He's a bit flaky but he is one of the few al pitchers that can continually **** up the Yankee lineup and he has sick stuff. Too much of a risk though.

The rest aren't worth the "Gil Meche Part Deux" Deals that'll be demanded from their respective agents.

I have always thought that Randy Wolf had talent, but he makes Moises Alou look dependable...

Sheets might be worth the risk but there is trouble with him staying on the mound as well.

Imagine getting Ben Sheets to a fair deal with incentives and he stays healthy? Good night. Sheets/Santana/Maine/Frank/Pelfrey

Why Frank? Because he's able to get tail at work. You tell me that's not more impressive than what Pelfrey has shown

What's amazing is that there are 11 pitchers on that list that are over 40.

I don't think Smoltz ever pitches again.

Watch the Mets go get Carl Pavano after their medical staff gives him a clean bill of health.

Sheets is the best and most realistic of the lot. Burnett has an opt-out but is pulling an Oliver Perez even though he appears to finally be healthy...

Mulders arm is so messed up he's actually trying to change his arm angle to avoid another surgery which I read he'd rather retire then do so.
