Default Ponson?

For 5th starter? He had a 3.88 ERA in Texas, but got pissed after he helped out the team going on 3 days rest, only to be booted when Kevin Millwood came back. The team released him because he was a distraction, but he was having a nice year on the mound.

Geez, ANYTHING to get rid of Pelfrey.

Unless he can suddenly play OF and hit, no thank you. The guy was kicked off the team for conduct detrimental to the team, the Texas Rangers, who are always hard up for pitching. What does that say?

Quote:
On Friday, June 6, 2008, just hours before the game, Ponson was designated for assignment from Texas Rangers General Mangager John Daniels and Manager Ron Washington. Ponson was dumped for "for disrespecting teammates and club personnel." Texas has 10 days to trade, release or outright Ponson to the minors. Daniels said Ponson had done nothing illegal and hadn't violated any club rules. Ponson cleared out his locker and left the stadium several hours prior to the start of the game against Tampa Bay.

25 K in 55+ IP? No thanks. He was due to become Mike Pelfrey, and we have a Mike Pelfrey already.

Well, tied for first place in the NL East with the Phillies at 52-44. But with a 10-game winning streak, and with the way the Mets rallied for a 10-8 win over the Reds last night, it seems like only a matter of time before the Mets leave the rest of the division in the rearview mirror.
You ****ing knew it after reading that.

It's like clockwork here on the mofo. Every time some scrub gets released there's always someone posting here asking if the mets should sign him.

Aside from needing to find more consistency (Pelfrey and Perez), and pitch more innings, I actually don't think the SP has been all that terrible.

I'd like for an OF to be available.

I think Pelfrey is what he is, and he's a fine fifth starter on any team (and if he ever learns how to strike guys out, I think he'll be a fine starter)... but much more was expected of Perez, and so much less has been delivered. He needs to step up, and Pedro needs to stay healthy and step up.

Perez has been a huge disappointment, IMO.

Pelfrey still needs work.

Santana. Good, not great.

Pedro. Will be ok, I think.

Maine. He's actually where I think he would be, but he's gotta get better at being economical with his pitches.

Agreed on all counts.

On the pitching side in general, Perez and Heilman are the two guys that need to do 180s if the Mets are going to go anywhere.

If Ponson steps up, Perez/Pelfrey/Heilman can go somewhere else in a deal for improvement in other areas.

Ponson has flaked out on every team who's ever done him the favor of employing him, and there's as much a chance of Perez/Heilman stepping up as there is of him stepping up.

Pass.

Ponson has sucked for years now. His hot start is a complete fluke. I suspect his career will head back to the shitter the second some team is dumb enough to take another chance on him.

Let's see. Is he

Fat? Check.

Washed Up? Check.

A malcontent? Check.

From a Caribbean island? Check.

I figure Omar offers him five years minimum.

This guy has been garbage on and off the field for years. The Rangers don't cut pitching for no reason...
