Default Millar, Bay, Nady?

"Paul Hagan is reporting that the Mets are interested in acquiring a first baseman and/or a corner outfielder. Hagan says that Omar Minaya is rumored to be interested in Kevin Millar, Jason Bay and Xavier Nady...Might Aaron Heilman be used as bait? "

Bay is the better player out of them, but Millar could give this team the kick in the ass it needs

Heilman is finally starting to pitch well, so we should most definitely trade him now. Makes pefect sense...

Omar is slowly but surely getting up there to Willie's "dolt" level...

There are a lot of good relievers available out there. If Delgado could be traded for a reliever and Hatteberg signs, getting one of these guys would be great.

None that would be under the Mets control at a reasonable salary until after the 2010 season...

You're tying yourself in a Medfordian knot.

Doubt you'll get much for Delgado, but I'd sure make a push for Jason Bay..

Reyes
Castillo
Wright
Beltran
Bay
Church
Delgado
Scheider

is a pretty strong line up and

what do they have that the Pirates would want for Nady or Bay?

They've got nothing left.

Actually, yea, it does make sense. You have to give value to get value. When can you get more for Heilman? When he's getting smacked around and going off the deep end or when he's pitching well?

(I'm not advocating trading Heilman necessarily, just saying.)

I have NEVER advocated trading Heilman unless he was bringing Santana back this offseason.

He has repeated the same pattern he has followed this year for his entire career so far - suck balls early on, then become practically unhittable after that. He will be fine, the key is to not continue to go to him early on in the season and let him blow game after game after game when he sucks...Willie hasn't figured that out.

Obviously when he's pitching well, but that doesn't mean they should deal him.

Heilman has evolved into one of the best setup men in the game (his early-season struggles not withstanding), and isn't eligible for FA until after the 2010 season. Add in his flexibility to the point where he COULD be a starter if they absolutely needed him to, and I really don't see why you'd consider trading him...

Like I said, I don't necessarily think they should trade him. I was responding to your "makes perfect sense" remark, because logically it does make sense that if the Mets were to trade Heilman they ought to do it when he will command the most in return. You seem to understand that, so I'm not sure why in this case Omar would be a "dolt."

Whoever it is, the Mets CANNOT rely on Alou/Evans/Chavy/Scrub to man LF.

If they want any OF of substance, they will be at wits end because other teams are going to ask for a lot.

I think heilman is expendable beyond this year. I'm confident they can make it with the pen as it is. Short of Heilman, no one who is there right now has really shown anything for met fans to not be confident in. If adding an heilman in a deal that gets you jason bay you do that deal every day.

Since when does pitching like garbage for half the year and doing well the second half not equate to mediocrity? Half good/half bad = mediocrity, no? If you can get someone who is not forty-f*cking-two years old in here to play some outfield and hit some home runs, so be it.
