Would we have won in 2006 with Jacobs instead of Delgado?

Would we be leading the division now with Jacobs instead of Delgado?

Instead of just throwing stats out there, answer those two questions for me.

So Jacobs at his BEST is on par with Delgado at his WORST.

It was STILL a good trade.

Jacobs is Dave Kingman. I do not miss him because he CANNOT hit a breaking pitch and can't even post a .300 obp. He is delgado at his worst, homer or nothing. He's a useless hitter and will be out of a starting job in 3 years if this continues. Maybe sooner.

I guess you take great comfort in Delgado's Blue Jay statistics. I'll buy you a Pedro Martinez baseball card so you can feel good about the pitching staff too.

Irrelevant to the issue at hand. There are 24 other guys on each team.

I'm quite comfortable with this one because I know that this is not based on purely baseball. Your distaste for the guy precedes the legitimate baseball-related issues that now revolve around him, therefore anything that you say about this is meaningless to me.

You're quite comfortable with this because like a bunch of others here it kills you that I was right and you were wrong. I said he was a one-dimensional cancer who already had had the best year (2005) of his current contract with the Marlins.

I said the trade would suck if the Mets didn't win while he was on the team. I guess you think 2008 is the YEAR we win back THE NL EAST BAY-BEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

Yes they would have won in 2006 and 2007 and yes they'd be winning now. Besides the production we'd have a 1st baseman that at least cared and 17 mill a year better allocated.

.579 and .387 slugging are the same?

I still think you'd have to make the trade at the time. Even though he lost the cleanup spot last season, Delgado was still more productive than Jacobs. I highly doubt the offense works nearly as well in 2006 with much weaker production coming from first base. Yeah Delgado is awful now, but in either case the Mets would still need someone better at first base right now no matter which player they had.

No, but the run production is almost identical.

How about with an extra $17M to get to some starting pitchers who weren't either crippled or complete unknowns?

Everyone seems to forget how pathetic the rest of the NL East was in 2006.

yeah in about 50% more plate appearances for Crappo and yet he's still getting outproduced. The fact that this is even being debated is an indictment of just how awful this deal was.

I remember crying for Adrian Gonzalez before the Padres snatched him. He isn't a star slugger but I am not sure he'd cost the Mets the division in 2006 and at least he'd have the defense/youth on his side.

Somehow, my life wouldn't have ended if we were younger and needed more time to 'win'

Wow. They both suck.

One just gets paid a hell of a lot more to do it.
