| As I was watching yesterday's suckfest, I switched back to the Phils v. Stros and saw a familiar face and a fan favorite. I'm talking about Ty Wigginton. I hated that they gave him up but since they eventually turned him into John Maine, I can't complain.( although we did get Keppinger back along with Benson but managed to screw that one up too). Anyway, I have heard people call the FAN about Castillo and Rich and few of those guys fire back with " who else were we going to get"? Well, Wiggy was traded at the deadline last year and, unless we don't know about it, Omar never pursued Wiggy. I realize that he hadn't played a lot of second but the kid has hit 24 homers the last two seasons. I think his D at second would have been adequate. Instead we have a guy who can't hit the ball out of the infield. Seems like another case of overlooking a non-athlete in favor of a guy who's last name ends in a vowel.

| I think the reasoning behind the Castillo trade was (surprisingly) sound. He was a perennially pesky hitter who got on base a lot, fielded his position well and stole a lot of bases. We gave up relatively little and the move was pretty much applauded as astute when it happened. Fast forward to the end of 2007. It's obvious he is a shell of his former self. Many comments have been made about his bad influence on Reyes. It's debatable whether or not to bring him back for a single season. Then Omar hands out a contract that may rival Barry Zito's in terms of ROI. I don't think at the time of the trading deadline a guy like Wigginton was on the radar. Omar looked for a guy who could help and perhaps become a lynchpin for the next few years. Coming off last year's performance and the off-season injuries it's anyone's guess why he got offered the kind of contract he did. Castillo would have had to have been as brain dead as Mets management to turn it down.

| I wanted Mark DeRosa for second base two years ago, and he's been great for the Cubs.
