| "Sources say his shoulder showed some wear and tear, which is not unusual for a pitcher of Santana's age. This is not to say Santana is not an effective pitcher now, but all of this information makes you wonder how effective he will remain during the course of his multiyear deal... Said an AL scout who has seen Santana this month: 'His stuff isn't even close to what it was [with the Twins].'" MLB Trade Rumors |

| Nonsense. Pitchers with his build throw 97 until they are 39. He'll be the $20m/year ace we need in 2012, guaranteed. I figured everybody knew the risks that come with this deal and realize he's more of a win now pitcher than a 'win 4 years from now'. His #'s showed a trend over the years that reflect on what we see now. I don't see the homer rate going down nor do I expect him to go deeper into games with high velocity as he gets older. This is what I expected and I hope fans realize this is what we have. I hope they don't expect 2001 Schilling or Randy for 4+ years.

| Simple solution for the Mets: 1) Forfeit the rest of the season, and 2) Move to Salt Lake City. Or just contract. That would be easier.

| Senior Member | I love this. The Mets sign the pitcher widely regarded as the best in baseball, and now all of a sudden he's a POS. These media types might want to get their stories straight.

| Who the hell cares that he WAS the best pitcher in baseball? Crappo was good once too and so was Crapillo. Mets win the back of the baseball card contest now how about winning some games.

| No not that they wrote POS per se...but he goes from the best pitcher in baseball to "its not that he's ineffective...." That my friend is reading between the lines.

| Are you surprised? You know what it's like, the Mets suck (which they do, in epic fashion at the minute), and the knives come out for even the few good players. I'm sure stories will come out soon of how Wright is banging crack whores and beating up little kids. To get all Padrino on you all, perspective goes out the window. And no, that's not directed at the forum before anyone accuses me of being a pollyanna - I'm as sick of the team as the next guy.

| wow, im more honored that my (bad) movie review of Indiana Jones made your sig! FWIW, I am pretty easily amused (which many of us must be considering the team we root for.)

| You read "between the lines" that they're actually calling Santana a piece of ****? OK.

| Haha, it's the things you listed, that out of context were amusingly surreal to me. I like surreal humour.
