Default what's worse...

1) Having Beltran watch strike 3 with RISP and losing to the Cards who then went on the win the WS?

2) The collapse of last year?

3) Having to reduce expectations so much so early this season?

Last year, they for a while at least cmae out looking like they were trying to atone for the loss to StL. This year, there is no such vibe...

I'm looking at a 140 mil .500 team wondering where we could cut payroll by like half and more or less have the same record.

I guess nothing beat the collapse, but the collapse is that much worse NOW because of how they look now. If they come out smoking and dominating, we could forgive them....Now they actually look like the way they played during the collapse is the norm.

After "2", 3 is not a surprise. That's why it can't be worse.

McGimpy sometimes lets out a cry or hissing sound.

During the rare times the McGimpy goes down to the ground (such as to change trees for food), it moves very slowly.

#1 because that WAS their best (and only) chance.

I figured they were a mediocre team and knew they were .500 from June. I was upset, but not as upset as I was after game 7. They deserved to be knocked from the playoffs after losing EIGHT straight 2 game swings to the Phillies. I lost all respect for that team afterwards.

How about these words from Willie....
ESPN - Mets vs. Rockies - Recap - May 25, 2008

"Awaiting the embattled Randolph back home Monday is a meeting with ownership amid speculation that his job is in jeopardy.

Does he expect to still be the manager after his meeting?
"I don't see why not," he said."

I think #1 is the worst, although it wasnt the Beltran called strike 3.

Finally get there after 6 years, with the best team in the division and lose. Right now, it looks like we'll never see them back there again.

Willie was completely outmanaged in that series. Left Floyd on the roster, it burned him, went to Mota too many times in the pen, it burned him. Larussa made a move, Willie had no answer (surprise!), the series was lost in game 2.

If not for John Maine and Perez, they probably lose that series in 6, with NO hope whatsoever in 7. IMO,That series wasnt as close as it played out, and the Mets still should have won game 7. After "the catch" and then the fact that they could never get the big hit with RISP...I believe that was the moment that this team turned into the crap it is now.

Its all related. Same team same ****.

For me personally, # 3 is definitely the worst.

Any talented team could experience a collapse like last year's for a multitude of reasons (Bklyn Dodgers, Phillies, Red Sox etc) and still bounce back the following year and at least put up a fight and remain competitive.

I was convinced that last year was a one shot deal for this Mets team, but apparently I was wrong, ESPECIALLY so early into the season.
