| ...how about seemingly everyone your five year old son runs into telling him he should be a Yankee fan. He's the only Met fan in his class at school. All his cousins are Yankee fans, as are his uncles and aunts. They all ask him who he likes, and he says "the Mets". They all tell him he should like the Yankees. You know the drill. What makes this year so damn annoying is that at least the past two years I could say something along the lines of "The Mets are the team witht he future", or something like that. But with this team looking so damn lifeless and apathetic, what can I say- other than "It takes a real man to stand alone"? |

This Met team? They'll crank out a 24-23 stretch, getting pounded by the lightweights, and showing flashes of brilliance versus the good teams. Bet on it. | |

| I sympathize. I was born in 88, so when I was really getting into baseball the Mets were pretty dreadful. I definitely heard about it at school the same way. I was in 7th grade when they lost the Subway Series. I had been running my mouth constantly. It sucked.

| I really don't know what the answer is, but I'd hate to be a Yankee fan simply because of all the pressure on the team to win it all year in and year out. It's a lot more enjoyable to win a championship when the odds are against you, if you ask me. |

| I don't remember either but my guess would be that the Mets were at least slight favorites. The Mets had their great pitching staff and won 108 regular season games while the Sox had Clemens and Hurst and pray for the sun to burst. |

| This from the first line of a Dallas Morning News article I'd have to pay for to read anymore: "SUDDENLY THE METS DON'T LOOK LIKE A CERTAIN BET Author: Randy Galloway The Dallas Morning News Publish Date: October 19, 1986 NEW YORK -- The World Series odds in Las Vegas clearly indicate the Mets are supposed to be the Godzilla that ate baseball." dallasnews.com | Archives |

| I hate to say this, but the best advise you could give him is to get out while he's young. He will experience much more joy and pride rooting for the Yankees. The Mets are losers. I grew up in the late 60's and 70s. The Mets had that "miracle" thing going, so I could always dream. Today, that is gone. If I had to pinpoint exactly when it left, I would say it was when Piazza made the last-out of the 2000 World Series. It kind of cemented their second class citizenship, which is VASTLY deserved. I know I am going to get flamed for this. But I don't care. There is no joy rooting for this franchise and I don't know that I would want my kid to be tortured like I have been rooting for this god forsaken, classless, crap franchise.
