Default Here is a little group project (insiped by Nick Evans)

How many productive major league players can we all collectively think of who were NOT highly regarded prospects by all the powers that be (media, front office people, what have you)?

For all we know Evans might have only one good game his whole life or may just go around the circuit once and hit before the league figures him out, but hopefully not. I'm sure that there are guys that we all know about/remember who were never really regarded until they came up and proved it on this level.

Mattingly was a great big nothing when he was called up. A .280 hitter with no power.

Kind of how he ended up.

I hate the Yankees as much as the next guy, but give the guy his due -- he put up HOF numbers for about 6 years between the slow start and ignominious end.

And his decline was due to an injury that he did not mask by using steroids.

Anyway, the fact that he had a slow start in the beginning did not answer my question. Was he regarded as a "prospect" prior to his debut or not?

I thought I did. He was projected as a .280-.300 hitter with minimal power.

Mora's tailed off considerably the last two years or so. I'd think his success had alot more to do with his home ballpark and maybe some HGH
