| I know some of you will find this hard to believe but I've never seen this game...until this afternoon. Very emotional ceremony before the game, found myself getting choked up until...that freakazoid Diana Ross came out and lip-synched "God Bless America" to that awful canned accompaniment. It almost made me see Delgado's point. Then the game begins and Ralph Kiner sounds like someone swapped his Aricept with some LSD. Julio Franco played with the Mets before 2001??? He repeats this little tidbit over and over again like some insane runaway train. I know Howie must have wanted to put a pillow over his face and put him out of his misery. Not only that, but his treatment of the attack only ten days prior seems a little blasé to say the least. His focus on idiotic statistical minutiae ("Chipper Jones has hit over .300 vs. Mets for 6 straight years," and then recites the average for each year) which would, under ordinary circumstances, just seem insipid instead comes off as near disrespectful. I have to tell you, in between re-living the sadness of those days, listening to Kiner, and seeing that mediocrity of a team (Shinjo batting fifth!) watching this game was painful in more ways than I could ever have imagined. |

| Watching that game makes me realize just how little Bobby V nd Piazza had to work with. Al Leiter is your ace? Shinjo was batting fifth? the fact that they got back into it until the Franco/Benitez suckfests against the Braves is a ****in miracle.

| I never heard the TV on this game. Radio only as was always the case when Cohen was there. I don't remember their treatment of the situation being anything other than appropriately solemn. Of course, it was the fourth game back after Bush destroyed the towers. That miserable series in Pittsburgh was something else altogether. |

| I watched the pre-game ceremonies, and then turned it off. I wasn't in the mood for baseball at the time. Then I saw the highlights and have been kicking myself ever since. And then next week I WAS in the mood for baseball, just in time to see the Benitez/Franco meltdown. |

| I dunno, this team reminds me a lot of that one... couldn't score enough runs, was written off before Memorial Day.
