Default How do you fire Willie now?!

Listening to the game on the fan, Eddie C stated that he thought Omar was stating that he and Mets management were behind Willie for the long haul here. Unless the Mets win the next 2 games, and I don't think even then, Willie will get SHELLED in the media and at Shea. They CLEARLY need the change. So I am asking not WHY do you fire Willie, because I want him gone, I was the first to call for it 2 years ago, but HOW? Omar just says "Oops, we don't like him anymore now?" Wilpon fires both Omar and Willie Monday morning? It just sounds like a PR and business nightmare. And I know PR nightmares don't really matter, but if we want a good manager to come here, they have to have SOME respect for the GM and owner...

Omg Met ownership is more clueless then Willie, its bad enough they didn't fire this bufoon this offseason and now they still don't want to fire him. I wonder how fast the Ceo of say Sprint would be fired if he went way below expectations in earnings. Fire Willie and Omar today for god sakes!!!!!

I like how Rob Nyer puts it...

Quote:
I like Willie Randolph. When I see him interviewed on TV, he strikes me as sensitive, thoughtful, and intelligent. He might be the perfect manager for the Brewers, or the Indians, or the Mariners or the Reds or the Pirates. But with each passing day that the Mets lose and look bad doing it, he seems like the wrong manager for the Mets.

CAN'T COMPARE MLB MANAGERS WITH OTHER MANAGERS!!!

It makes people look downright foolish.

Really, this just seems Dolanish. One has to wonder if a contract extension is next.

Ladies and gentlemen, say hello to the first-place New York Mets.

Well, tied for first place in the NL East with the Phillies at 52-44. But with a 10-game winning streak, and with the way the Mets rallied for a 10-8 win over the Reds last night, it seems like only a matter of time before the Mets leave the rest of the division in the rearview mirror.
You ****ing knew it after reading that.

The vote of confidence comes right before the rug gets pulled out from under your feet.

Willie's days are numbered.

Nowhere, ever, in baseball, has a GM made any less positive a statement up until the very moment the manager (or GM) was fired. I don't think Omar's statement means a thing. In any event, maybe Wilpon will suddenly get it through his head that both Omar and Willie need to be shown the door.

Exactly. No matter what happens it's obvious they're not going to do something until Monday at the earliest. Willie's clearly a marked man and management wants him to have his authority up until the moment he's canned. If anything this "vote of confidence" is an acknowledgment of his diminished standing in the clubhouse.

If Willie is fired within the next few days, it sucks to be Omar, who has to sit there and say that nonsense to the press, while he knows Willie is a goner. That has to hurt his credibility.... whatever Omar has left that is.

On the flipside, can it be a sincere statement ? Is it possible that Omar & The Wilpons are totally clueless, and are in complete denial.... and really think that Willie is doing a good job, and can turn this bunch of Delgado's around ? That is a very Scary thought. I realize this scenario is very unlikely, but not impossible.

I guess we all have to hope that Omar's statement, is just a smokescreen before the ax drops. Another thought, is that Omar is being kept totally out of the loop by the Wilpons, as he is about to get canned too.

Hopefully, we will know the answers soon enough.

Oh come on, he's a GM. Who the hell believes what he says anyway?

And as others have said 'the vote of confidence' at this point is so well known as a harbinger of doom, that's almost what it explicitly means. Why do you think it's so often preceded by the words "the dreaded"?

Remember the last Met to get a 'vote of confidence' was Bobby V from Freddie a few weeks before he was fired.

Maybe Willie will fall on his word and resign instead of getting canned.
Maybe they should let Minaya manage and let Willie be GM. Let Willie stock the team up with non-latino players and see how well Minaya likes managing them.
Know what I'm sayin'?
