Default Your Gutless, Soulless 2008 Mets

This should scare a lot of people. The Mets have played 45 games.

When the Mets have trailed in the fourth inning or later, they have won exactly four times. All four of those games were against cellar dwellers, Pirates and Nats. All four of those games involved deficits of one or two runs only. Two of those games had to go to extra innings to complete the job.

Nats 2-1 4th, Mets took lead in fifth
Nats 2-1 4th, Mets tied in fifth, took lead in sixth
Nats 2-1 4th, Mets tied 2-2 in eighth, won in 14
Pirates 2-0 4th, Mets tied in fourth, took lead in fifth, pirates tied it in eighth, Mets won in 11

To put this in simpler, scarier terms, the Mets have won exactly one game in which they trailed later than the fifth inning. Against the Nats and it took 14 innings. Oh and the deficit they overcame was one run. In a quarter of a season, they have not won any game in which they trailed at any time by more than two runs.

I don't know any other way to illustrate what a heartless waste of space this team is. Bottom line, if the 2008 Mets are trailing in the fifth and they are not playing a last place team, turn the game off. If they are trailing at any time against anyone by more than two runs, turn the game off. Your team is already dreaming of their postgame enchilada.

Yet they were able to blow a lead in the 7th last night with "Ace" on the mound

Good Post KO, although I think that anyone who has watched most of the Met games this season, know this team lays down and dies like no other Met team I have ever watched. Pathetic in every way.

BTW.... love the Avatar

Yeah, I don't think anyone can deny that this team hasn't shown a lot of "never say die" attitude this season.

Thanks for the info, as depressing as it is. I asked the question in a previous IGT as to how many come from behind wins the Mets had this year, because I couldn't think of any offhand. Now I know why.

BTW - did you notice how Girardi blew a gasket last night, got tossed, and then his team came back to win the game?

I know this isnt your point, but Girardi is a douche bag. He's a terrible manager. The only reason he hasnt been exposed in the Bronx quite yet is because his boss is an even bigger idiot. Yes, he got a lot of out of a Marlin team 2 years ago but in the processes blew out half of the team's young arms which led to an absolute disaster follow up year.....

Also the Yankees have the perfect formula to snag comeback wins quite easily....

Step 1: Have no quality starting pitching so the opportunity to fall behind is high - Check.
Step 2: Have 150 million dollars worth of offensive talent including 1 player who might end up as one of the best ever - Check.
Step 3: Have locked down 8th/9th setup/closer tandum. - Check

Yeah - I'm no Girardi fan - but the point is he showed some emotion and the team seemed to respond (can't prove the two are connected though). And as much as I agree with your analysis, the Skanks did get a well pitched game last night.

The Mets need a manager who will draw the media attention away from the team and put it on himself. That's one of the things Bobby Valentine was great at. Yeah, he was an egomaniac, but he also helped take the heat of his team when they struggled. Willie just shrugs his shoulders and smiles, expecting that to calm the storm. I was once a Willie apologist. I thought he might bring something new to the team that would help get them over the top. I was wrong. There's a reason why I've only watched one Mets game this year and his role in last years collapse is that reason.

As much as I hate the braves... Chipper Jones has about 10 times more heart than the entire mets team. Why can't we have someone like him?

Even Wright is extremely disappointing to me right now

Someone needs to send them over to the Wilpons. And post them in the clubhouse for these quitting f*cksticks.
