Id like to see Hernandez manage but I dont think hes interested. Carter I think is a goodie goodie, Id give Hojo a shot too. You need someone who is hungry, but then again you also need players who are hungry

This is the problem with hiring a yeller:

Players make a lot more money today then they did 20 years ago. They can pretty much tell the manager to go **** themselves and the manager has his hands tied because the following things will happen:

A) You bench the guy with the 50 million dollar contract, ownership pressures the manager to play him, manager has no choice.

B) Player is in walk year, compiles his numbers, deals with it and then signs elsewhere

C) Free agent hears story about said manager, signs elsewhere.

The players here are already telling the manager to go **** himself.

A) I believe this is happening right now.

B) Oliver Perez comes to mind.

C) This was prevalent when Valentine was manager.

I refuse to believe that Randolph is this stone cold stupid. I really think that he's a puppet.

Hungry = Backman
Wants a chance to prove (re-prove) himself = Backman
Proven Winner as a Mgr on many levels = Backman
Motivated = Backman
Beats his wife = Backman

I'd take him in a heartbeat. The Joliet Jackhammers season in the Northern league is about to start, do you think he would leave them now?

The last think this team needs is someone of Backman's caliber OFF THE FIELD.

The Mets are already second class in this town. Imagine them hiring a wife beating and lying drunk?

Free Agents:

Let's be realistic and honest with ourselves...if money is the same and Josh Beckett has the chance to go to St. Louis, the Dodgers or the Mets. He goes west. If money is the same and Mark Texiera has a chance to go to St. Louis, the Dodgers or the Mets, he too goes West (even though his name does end in a vowel), but if Livan Hernandez is a free agent and the money is the same...he lands here. That is the landscape of this team.

Wright - home grown
Schneider - Trade
Church - Trade
Pelfrey - Home grown
Heilman - crap
Wagner - 4 years, but the landscape has changed since his arrival
Showenweis - no one else wanted him

How proven a winner on many levels is Wally really? I'd suspect that Oberkfell has a far better resume that isn't stained with all sorts of legal, emotional, and stability problems. Hiring Backman over him would be a bigger joke than staying with Willie...

If they won, Disney would make a movie about it in 5 years. This town LOVES when people are reborn from down and out situations:

Doc
Darryl
Steve Howe

NY was the only city that gave these people a reprive.

Valid arguement until that line...

That was YEARS ago. Way before the PC crowd took over this country.

I don't see anyone lining up to hire any of those guys to manage their team, or even advocating it for that matter. I think Wally's whole saga over the last few years has been even more disturbing...

Backman has won three minor league championships as a manager 1999 (Tri-City, Western League), 2002 (Birmingham, Southern League) and 2007 (South Georgia, South Coast League). Named 2004 minor league manager of the year. He knows what he is doing.

I agree with the "PC" comment, not Paulie Cee mind you. It was before the PC movement...but I harken back to the love affair of Billy Martin and the Yankees. No matter how much Steinbrenner hated him, Martin was always the right guy for the job. The parrallels between Martin and Backman are there.
