| I agree with Ron and Gary. With The status of Alou up in the air we need to make a move yesterday. Can we give the Pirates one of the guys at Bing who is hot right now? How about Nick Evans or Dan Murphy?

| With Nady hot right now, I think his price might be more than he's really worth. However, with Granderson off the Tigers' DL, I wonder if Brandon Inge could be had at a low price. They probably have to dump him sooner or later and the Mets could stick him in left field or wherever else he's needed.

| I've said it in other threads... the Mets stole Oliver Perez in that deal. I don't think the Pirates are going to trade him back here without being blown away.

| Super Moderator | I want someone who is going to be in the starting lineup... not a bench guy who is brought to keep the place warm for Alou when he feels like coming back. I really don't care for Alou at this point. Much like the El Duque situation, that has become a joke onto itself. Maybe Alou can borrow Duque's boot... though I have a better idea were the boot should go for those two. Last edited by Bay Ridge Dave : 04-27-2008 at 05:23 PM. |

Evans has some major power - hit smacked 15hrs in the FSL in under 400 ABs (all while hitting .285 as well)...which is not an easy thing. He's just 22, plays 1B and is learning LF....two places the Mets will need to fill very shortly. Dan Murphy, though he's stuck behind Wright has too good of a stick to trade away right now. While he doesnt hit for the raw power of Evans, he might be the most professional hitter in the Mets system right now. He was an RBI machine in the FSL and has carried that right over into Bing. Both these guys are only "well thought of" right now...Break out seasons in AA could jack their value up significantly. So even if the "goal" is to eventually trade them I'd say given how they've started the season in AA, the Mets could get a ton more for them by waiting. I know LF is a major concern, but I'd hold off on moving legit prospects in the system just now and see what other options are out there.

| Dave, I said this to you in the IGT, don't know if you caught it... Your implications that Alou doesn't want to be on the field are downright ridiculous. The guy does not need the money, he's playing because he loves the game. He's always played hard and comes from a pretty impressive baseball family. He's made of glass, but you know full well he wants to be out there helping the team. So cut the ****. |

Hence, why I could care less about him, or would have any use for him at this point. He is very, very unreliable. The Mets need someone who can go out there day in and day out.... not every couple of months or so. For that, Omar should take the heat.

| i just fear they will promote F. Martinez too early, although I think he is leaps and bounds more mature than Milledge, Mets have a penchant for calling up and sending down, ruining any sort of a rhythm these guys could get in.
